1 Years Old  [8/4/2008 7:20 PM]
Kaitlyn is one year old today.  And as a present, she has been bestowed the ability to walk.  She took her first four steps tonight tentatively to my waiting paws.  The whole family was there to see, including Pops which was an added bonus.  I'm very glad I wasn't at work when something as land-marky as that occured.

Happy Birthday, Kaitlyn!

Overloaded  [7/22/2008 10:05 PM]
I just found out you can overload webmethods.  Craziness.  If you use the MessageName attribute property of the WebMethod attribute...

[WebMethod]

public void HelloWorld(string message)

{

    return "Hi. " + message;

}

[WebMethod(MessageName = "HelloWorldMorePolite")]

public void HelloWorld(string message, string signature)

{

    return "Hi. " + message + " Love, " + signature;

}

That junk actually shows up as overloaded in the proxy that's generated on the client.  Maybe everyone knew this, but just today someone reminded me that you couldn't overload a webmethod.  FIE ON THEM SAYS I.

Warranties!!!!!  [7/22/2008 11:01 AM]
Wonderful news.  I was casually planning to see if there was any chance of getting a replacement card from the manufacturer.  Due to Luke's prodding, I went ahead and checked on it.  Turns out, they supply a lifetime warranty!!  How awesome.  The guy said as long as they get a card back that hasn't been shot with a shotgun, it won't be a problem.  Fortunately, I used a .22.  So, once we get back from the magnificent mostly childless (66.67%) vacation we're taking in the next week to the mountains of North Carolina, I'm going to exercise my newly acquired Advanced RMA capabilities as enabled on EVGA.com.  Newegg provided all the info I needed to get the answers and as usual is just about the best purchasing site ever.  It's amazing how technology applied well can actually make life more enjoyable instead of the other way around.  There's nothing quite quantifiable about how ideal sites like Newegg and EVGA are other than to say I never have to sit there and wonder how to get or do what I need.  So well done.  I'd love to be building things that make other people think like that instead of the applications we turn out professionally.  I'm almost positive I have the potential to produce better things than I'm able to at work.  =[  Hopefully, if nothing else, I'm a force in that direction.

Regardless of all that, this is still a most happy day!

Back up and running  [7/21/2008 8:03 PM]
Yea, in my ridiculous string of weird computer problems, my graphics card just went dead.  No warning, just all the sudden blank screen and then one long beep followed by three short beeps at boot.  So annoying.  $200 for 9 months of functionality.  Ridiculous, right?  Cameron came through for me though.  I had a 8800 GTS and he happen to have a spare 7300 GS.  That's right.  That's how money he is.  Crazy.

Why is my computer having these problems?  I'd like them to stop.  I have a gremlin.

Lang gave me a 7900GTX. That is how much money he is. Crazier. I even got it 8 months ago when it cost even more! Craziest.

I hope someday you can experience the caliber of computer that I have now. I compile the Page LifeCycle before I hit the Compile button.

Also, look into getting the manufacturer to replace the card. They good like that.
